Dr. Matthew Gelber

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Matt received his B.S. degree in General Engineering and his Ph.D. in Bioengineering (2017) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on the application of additive manufacturing methods to tissue engineering, with the goal of developing better in vitro models of human disease processes.

The ability to manufacture highly reproducible, highly biomimetic culture models, coupled with the suite of spectroscopic tools and data processing techniques developed in the CISL, has the potential to greatly accelerate basic research as well as drug discovery. By coupling high-throughput tissue engineering with automated chemical imaging, Matt hopes to gain insight into the intercellular interactions that result in degeneration, regeneration, and cancer.
